Organic Wine Conference

The Organic and Biodynamic Winegrowing Conference is a celebration of organic and biodynamic viticulture and winemaking.  It is an educational and inspiring event which dispels the myths and proves that this is the future of farming and wine.

The OBWC was held on the 25-27 June, 2019 at the ASB Theatre in Blenheim.

As a member of the Organic Winegrowers New Zealand (OWNZ), this is our second year attending the conference.

WHY ORGANIC WINE?

Organic growers aim to produce wines that are true to the earth, and to take care of the land we all share. No synthetic chemical fertilisers, pesticides, or herbicides are used. Instead, organic producers are careful cocreators with nature. We build healthy vines by building healthy soils, and by nurturing a diverse, rich community of plants, soil, insects and microorganisms.

Our new marketing coordinator headed up for the week and was impressed by the organisation, structure, identity and friendliness of the organisation.

For Botryzen, the trip gave us knowledge about what was going on not only the wine industry but also in the organics sector. It gave us insights to the significance of our place in the market and how we can advocate for the use of biologicals. The conference presented many perspectives but showed us how soil management leads on to affect the health of everyday consumers that buy produce.

Botryzen has now created an Instagram to keep up to date with growers in the industry. These growers range from those who produce New Zealand’s finest wines to those who grow their own produce for their home. We hope to educate the use of biologicals as an alternative approach that is natural, safe and environmentally friendly.
